Boots Parker's first novel is a great read, thoroughly enjoyable and engaging. She is a storyteller in the Southern tradition, spinning yarns that fit neatly in the historical framework of the Civil War. If you like reading about antebellum plantation life and the effects of the war, you will love this book. My only wish is that Boots Parker had started writing as a young woman.

A Dividing Stream is wonderful, involving, and fascinating, weaving fact and fiction about life in the Deep South before and during the Civil War. Beautiful!
